Reading Buddies

You CAN Change the Story through Reading Buddies.

Just thirty minutes a week is all it takes to impact the life of a child.

The single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success in school is reading aloud to children. Reading aloud with children not only builds their language and literacy skills, it exposes them to new ideas, builds their social and emotional skills, and most importantly, inspires them to have fun and become lifelong learners. Reading Buddies are friendly, fun volunteers who are willing to share the joy of reading by reading to preschoolers, kindergartners, or first and second grade students either one-on-one or in small groups in early learning centers and elementary schools.

Get Involved!

If you like kids and want to have a meaningful impact in our community, we want you to be a Reading Buddy. It's one of the best ways you can help to prepare children for success in school and life. We ask that you be friendly, and responsible. We will provide you with training and ongoing support, and you will become part of a fun, supportive volunteer community.

If you are interested in becoming a Reading Buddy for the 2017-18 school year, please fill out our webform and we will reach out to you when registration begins this summer.

Time Commitment: We ask that you commit during the school year to a minimum of 30 minutes per week or if you are part of a team your weekly commitment would be rotated.  Specific days and time vary based on your availability and each site’s specific needs.
